Unforgettable Professional Surfing Competition on Tanegashima Island

Being in Tanegashima, it's not often that we get a chance to see pro surfers from all over the country, but the JPSA Tanegashima was held and surf photographers were very excited.

JPSA Photos.

For JPSA 2019, the venue has been changed from the surf point in front of the hotel on the first day to Yokino Beach (Kumano Beach) due to a typhoon as in 2018, but these photos are from JPSA Tanegashima at Yokino Beach.

The photos in this issue are also posted on our webmaster's Instagram, but this time we present a remade version with some modifications.

(There may be some photos that are not on the instagram.)

The first day of JPSA this year was held at Takezaki point (in front of the hotel), but the wave was too big for the women's trials, and it was too hard for the women to ride even one time.

We were in a great hurry because of the sudden change of location, but we drove from Minamitane Town to Kumano Beach early in the morning to take pictures.

On the way, there were sudden squalls even when we thought the weather was clear. I wrapped my camera and lens in a towel and put a garbage bag on top of the towel to stop the squall with a selection scissors, which is my usual Tanegashima shooting style.

I was the only one standing on the beach during the downpour, and the other photographers were shooting from inside their tents.

I have included just a few pro surfers' surfing, which even surf photographers are excited to see.

Has the photo gallery disappeared from the official JPSA website?

The official website of the JPSA pro surfing competitions that I always visit used to have a large number of photos of pro surfers during the competitions posted as a photo gallery, but recently I can't find that gallery.

Where have they disappeared? I was looking forward to seeing them.

JPSA 2023 will be held!

JPSA's 203rd schedule has been officially announced. We are happy to open the first round in Tanegashima.

I hope that the event will continue to be held in Tanegashima in the future.

I would very much like to go to Tanegashima for the JPSA shoot, but unfortunately I am not going to be able to go due to my work schedule.

Summary of outstanding skills of Japanese pro surfers seen at JPSA Tanegashima

I am very happy that a Japanese professional surfing competition is held in Tanegashima.

I hope that the event will continue to be held in the future. It is a must-see event because it will feature the best performances by Japanese pro surfers, which we rarely see in Japan.

I wish for the development of surfing.

Thank you for reading to the end.
