What is the impact on surfing when a typhoon approaches Tanegashima? The reality

When a typhoon or low pressure system is approaching where you live, it is generally depressing.

But surfers and surf photographers keep an eye on the weather map and hope for safe and good waves.

Surfing points on Tanegashima often wake up only when a typhoon approaches.

Everyone goes into the ocean according to their surfing ability, and the rest of the time, they are monitoring the ocean as a gallery, so there are few accidents.

Some surfers are so nervous about the approaching typhoon that they can't get any work done!

Not only in Tanegashima, surfers are probably already excited when they see a weather map and a typhoon or low-pressure system is approaching.

Actually, surf photographers are also restless when a typhoon is approaching. Of course, no one surfs when a typhoon is approaching too close and dangerous, but when the waves are relatively far away and safe, it can be a perfect day for surfing.

Tanegashima Island is surrounded by 360° of ocean, so even during an approaching typhoon or after it passes, good waves can come from anywhere on the island. The fact that waves can come from anywhere is a unique feature of a remote island.

The photographer also looks at the weather map and the forecast of the typhoon's path, and considers which point on the island is best, taking into account the wind direction, etc. If there are no surfers at the predicted point, it is impossible to take surf photos, so we often have to drive around the island.

This time, I would like to introduce some of the surfers on Tanegashima when there are good waves due to an approaching low-pressure system, mainly from my Instagram photos.

What is the impact on surfing when a typhoon approaches Tanegashima? Summary

Surfers look happy when the waves are good. It makes the photographer happy too.

Of course, typhoons in Tanegashima are very strong, so it can be dangerous at times, but I surf when it is safe and the waves are good.

I think it is common for surfers all over the world to be happy about good waves, but surf photographers are also quite happy.

Thank you for reading to the end.
